The Overseas Highway runs for about 100 miles from Key Largo to Key West. Although beautiful scenery, the speed limit (45 mph) makes it a lingering drive.
Once we got our tent set up (Boyd’s Camp Ground) and the wheels on our bikes (that we brought with us) it was time to explore Key West. Our bicycles were our transportation. Our camp was about 7 miles from downtown Key West and the night life.
Of course we had to pose by the Southern most point in the Continental US.

We visited some historical sites: Hemmingway’s House; Truman’s “Little White House”; and where Diana Nyad’s famous swim (Cuba to US) ended.

We took in some of the natural sights: Waves crashing over the pier @ the Aids Memorial; Kayaking through the Mangroves; Seeing Key West from a scooter.
Of course there were un-crowded beaches; of course there were numerous roosters running around; of course one could snorkel.
Cruise Boats, night life and old fashioned relaxation were all part of the Key West scene.
All too soon it was time to head up north and back home. Was Key West the coolest place that we have ever been? Well, maybe not, however, I think that we’ll return at some point in the future.
