I think that a person is just born to travel and seek adventure. There is nothing that you (or anyone else) can do to initiate the process.
This is how the party got started back in 1973: I say to mary, “Hey, I think that we should go to Europe.” Mary replied, “OK.” And the rest is history.
Looking back on it now, I would have to say, “amazing”, but, at the same time, I would also have to say, “not surprising.”
So there we found ourselves in 1973, trucking around Europe with backpacks on seeking adventure.
Meeting a former LC high school foreign exchange student (and friend) Hans Schegal in Germany was only a small part of the adventure. Who would have known that Hans was later to become an astronaut and go up in the space shuttle 2 times?
Our experiences in Europe in 1973 are documented in the book “Exploits of a Common Adventure” by kent irwin.
