The idea to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was first conceived through conversations with other travelers. People told us that we should experience the Inca Trail and that it would be a really cool thing to do. And that is what started it. At first we didn’t know that Machu Picchu was a wonder of the world, but it is!  And, regardless of that, it is a really cool place and getting there is the adventure.

A group of friends came together and formed Team Mary.  From the onset we knew that getting Mary up the hill and over the 14ers would be our biggest challenge.  Turned out not to be an issue.

The many steps and the inclimate weather made hiking the Inca Trail interesting.  It even began to snow as we crossed over Dead Woman’s Pass.

When we arrived at Machu Picchu the adventure went from interesting to amazing.

We now understand why Machu Picchu is a wonder of the world.  Our experiences associated with the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are documented in the book “Exploits of a Common Adventurer” by kent irwin.
